About the role :
The Risk and Legal Counsel plays a vital part in safeguarding Ageing Australia's reputation and operations. This role provides expert legal, governance, and risk management advice to senior leadership, staff, and the Board of Directors. Key responsibilities include ensuring regulatory compliance, reviewing legal contracts, and developing robust risk frameworks to mitigate potential risks. By providing clear guidance and oversight, the Risk and Legal Counsel helps Ageing Australia navigate complex legal and regulatory environments, protecting the organisation's interests and supporting its strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities :
As a skilled Risk and Legal Counsel, you will provide expert advice on governance, compliance, and Australian law, ensuring Ageing Australia's operations are protected and aligned with regulatory requirements. Key responsibilities will include :
Developing and maintaining risk management frameworks and strategies.Conducting risk assessments and provide regular reports to the Board and senior leadership.Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts and agreements.Ensure regulatory compliance and manage compliance audits and regulatory queries.Provide ongoing support with the governance of Ageing Australia's contract management system.Build a risk-aware culture within the organisation through training and communication.Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external legal counsel.About you :
To be successful in this role you will have :
Tertiary qualification in Law, with current admission as a legal practitioner in Australia.Additional qualifications in Risk Management, Governance, or Compliance are highly regarded.Demonstrated experience (5+ years) in providing in-house legal counsel, preferably in a not-for-profit or membership organisation.Proven ability to develop and implement organisational risk frameworks and management strategies.Strong expertise in contract law and regulatory compliance, including drafting and negotiating complex agreements.Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate legal and risk concepts into practical advice.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders, including Boards.Proven organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities within a part-time capacity.Deep understanding of Australian governance, legal, and compliance frameworks.Familiarity with the regulatory landscape relevant to not-for-profit or membership organisations.Previous experience in aged care or community services or experience leading training initiatives on governance and risk management, would be highly advantageous.We require federal police check as an essential selection component for this role, please consider this requirement when submitting your application.
