We are seeking a First Nations Registered Nurse with teaching experience to develop our Nursing units for Diploma, Bachelor, and Master (pre-registration) courses, ensuring cultural sensitivity from a First Nation perspective. This role involves writing units, advising on course content, and ensuring cultural appropriateness.

This position requires the applicant to be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, which is a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.

Key Responsibilities include:

  1. Lecturing, teaching, assessing, and grading Nursing students.
  2. Maintaining accurate records of student attendance, progress, and assessments.
  3. Teaching lecture and tutorial classes.
  4. Developing First Nations units for various Nursing courses.
  5. Advising on the cultural suitability of other units.
  6. Supporting First Nation students through development of support services.
  7. Coordinating or leading activities of other staff in the discipline.
  8. Engaging in teaching evaluations and professional development.
  9. Monitoring at-risk students and organizing support efforts.
  10. Maintaining professional conduct and collaborative behaviors.

Qualifications

About You

  1. Postgraduate qualification in Nursing.
  2. At least 5 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  3. Broader understanding and lived experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities.
  4. Strong theoretical and practical knowledge.
  5. Excellent presentation and leadership skills.

Advantageous but not required:

  1. Enrolment or completion of a PhD related to Nursing.
  2. Relevant tertiary teaching experience.
  3. Demonstrated teaching achievements.
  4. Working with Children's Check.

Notes: This is an Identified position under Section 27(4) of the Public Sector Management Act 1994, open only to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. Heritage and cultural capability confirmation may be required.
