Overview

This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 4, 2025. We are seeking to appoint a hardworking and motivated Health Safety and Wellbeing Officer. Located in the northern suburb of Alkimos with sweeping ocean views, Alkimos College opened in 2020 with our foundation Year 7 cohort, providing local intake area students with access to an exceptional secondary education in world-class learning facilities. Stage 1 buildings include administration, lower school student services, library, gymnasium, fitness centre, food studios, cafeteria, IT labs, technologies workshops, general classrooms, science laboratories, and nature play area. Shared oval and community facilities with the City of Wanneroo are available via the adjacent Halesworth Park precinct. Stage 2 includes a performing arts centre, lecture theatre, senior school student services centre, new SALP centre and general classrooms.

Role and responsibilities

This is a newly created role and presents a fantastic opportunity to join our growing Student Services team. The successful candidate would actively contribute to the wellbeing of students and staff across the college by providing first aid as needed, in compliance with relevant Occupational Safety and Health Legislation. You would play a key role in the planning, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of the school\'s health and wellbeing programs and frameworks and in developing strategies to reduce the risk of injury and harm. You would provide guidance to school staff on Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) matters and maintain accurate records related to injury, illness, incidents, accidents and hazards.

To be considered you should ideally have excellent communication and collaboration skills to engage with students, staff and the wider community. Applicants with experience in a large secondary school context with knowledge of the Compass management system are highly desirable. Applicants who effectively achieve positive outcomes with a great sense of humour are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications and experience

Demonstrated well developed project management skills with the ability to develop, implement and evaluate health and wellbeing programs. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of WHS legislation, policy and practices. Demonstrated relevant knowledge and expertise in First Aid and associated qualifications. Demonstrated well developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels and in emergency situations. Demonstrated well developed computer application skills, including a working knowledge of word processing and development and maintenance of databases and spreadsheets.

Eligibility
  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
  • obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
