The Australian Federal Police Community Liaison Team (CLT) play a vital role in strengthening relationships between the AFP and diverse, often vulnerable communities across Australia. They actively engage with community members to build trust, and address social cohesion challenges such as extremism, crime, and cultural misunderstandings. The Community Liaison Officers develop and implement community engagement strategies, coordinates initiatives with internal and external stakeholders, and represents the AFP in various community and governmental forums.
What will you do?- Assist in the development and delivery of projects to meet the strategic objectives of the Community Liaison Team.
- Develop project plans, communication, and stakeholder engagement strategies.
- Explore opportunities to raise awareness of issues and trends relating to social cohesion issues.
- Development and fostering of relationships with community stakeholders, government, non-government partner agencies and welfare support agencies.
- Develop and maintain crime type subject matter expertise, including undertaking regular environmental scanning and self-learning.
- Provide effective and efficient coordination and administrative support.
- Event management and logistics support for multi-stakeholder events and meetings.
- Support attendance at stakeholder events and meetings as required.
- Assist in the development and coordination of correspondence, ministerial enquiries, executive briefings, evaluations, or reporting requirements.
- Lead and assist in the delivery of presentations and briefings to stakeholders.
- Act as a link between the community and law enforcement.
- Advise AFP officers and executive on working in culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
- Delivery of targeted outreach, including presentations and education materials to identified audiences.
- Understanding of operating environment and situational awareness on operational trends and threats through regular liaison with internal and external stakeholders to enable intelligence led engagement.
- You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
- Negative Vetting 1 security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Highly motivated and self-driven.
- Ability to be flexible and dynamic in response to changing business priorities.
- Ability to cultivate collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders. and manage complex partnerships.
- Experience in delivery of strategic initiatives and projects.
- Ability to present with influence to large public audiences.
- Relevant qualifications, extensive knowledge or experience in community engagement, communications, stakeholder, and relationship management.
- Ability to speak a second language.
- Experience or knowledge in project management or ability to acquire.
- This role has been advertised in two locations, Sydney and Melbourne. Successful applicants are expected to be based in Sydney or Melbourne.
- This role attracts a composite allowance in recognition of expanded working hours, normal patterns of attendance and shift patterns (such as afternoon shifts, weekends and Designated Public Holidays) that are required under the Operations working pattern. In accordance with the AFP Enterprise Agreement, an employee who is required to work in accordance with the Operations working pattern will receive a Core Composite of 22% in addition to their base salary, which will count as salary for superannuation. The Commissioner has the authority to remove a composite from a role.
