As a Senior Critical Environment Technician (CET) in Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team, you will maintain the critical infrastructure that keeps our Datacenters up and running. This could include coordinating with supplier/vendors, working with Management to address operational, risk and safety situations, mentoring other CE Technicians, hands-on understanding of how critical environment equipment works, performing maintenance, responding to onsite incidents while coordinating with other critical facilities professionals, and using telemetry and other platforms to monitor equipment performance and operations.

Microsoft's CO+I powers the company's online services and you will play a key role in delivering core infrastructure for Microsoft services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Azure platform.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as an operations specialist in one major area of CE operations (e.g., electrical, mechanical, controls, generators) and work on advanced tasks independently.
  • Inspect and supervise critical environment-related facility equipment (e.g., controls, HVAC, mechanical systems), building and grounds for unsafe or abnormal conditions and escalate per policies and standards.
  • Utilize internal CMMS to track equipment assets and complete work order requests for maintenance work.
  • Safely and quickly respond to and lead onsite incident response teams for abnormal conditions that impact operations, coordinating with other professionals to perform corrective repairs without supervision.
  • Enhance or develop emergency operating procedures (EOPs), methods of procedure (MOPs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to CE operations and incidents.
  • Perform various maintenance (planned, predictive, corrective) and repairs following MOPs/SOPs for CE equipment (electrical, mechanical, cooling) and escalate when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate hands-on understanding of equipment, troubleshoot systems and components within trained disciplines.
  • Provide consultation to lower-level colleagues in troubleshooting systems and problems.
  • Understand, follow, and ensure safety and security requirements (e.g., JHAs, EH&S, toolbox talks) and business processes to perform work safely, with quality and reliability per applicable requirements.
  • Embed a culture and values audience; contribute to a collaborative environment.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • 3+ years mission-critical services work (e.g., data centers, high-availability environments, or related fields)
  • 1+ year in a specialized area (e.g., mechanical, electrical, controls) or related field
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years mission-critical services experience in relevant environments or an Associate's degree/technical trade certification with 4+ years experience.
Background Check Requirements
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements, including Microsoft Cloud Background Check on hire/transfer and every two years.
  • Citizenship Verification may be required; Australian Citizenship verification for federal security requirements.
  • NV1/2 or PV Clearance Assessment may be required through the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency.
