Ventilation Engineer - Underground Operation | 8:6 FIFO or DIDO

Join a long-life, high-grade underground copper operation in Cobar, NSW, currently undergoing transformation and investment under new leadership. This deep, complex mine presents unique ventilation challenges and opportunities — ideal for a technically astute engineer seeking a hands-on, site-based role in a high-performing Technical Services Team.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Ventilation Engineer with a strong foundation in underground hard rock mining and proven experience managing complex ventilation systems. Reporting to the Senior Ventilation Engineer, you will play a key role in sustaining and optimising the mine's primary and secondary ventilation infrastructure while supporting future mine development and production expansion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct statutory inspections, routine monitoring and ventilation system diagnostics to ensure compliance with site standards and legislative requirements.
  • Execute detailed ventilation surveys, including airflow, gas levels, temperature, and dust sampling.
  • Prepare and maintain ventilation and emergency egress plans, including fire scenario modelling.
  • Plan and document primary and secondary ventilation surveys, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Develop weekly and short-term ventilation plans aligned with production schedules and mine development sequences.
  • Maintain and update the site's Ventsim model in line with changes to the ventilation circuit and infrastructure.
  • Interface with the electrical department to ensure optimal fan performance and serviceability.
  • Support the implementation of ventilation-related capital projects and infrastructure upgrades.
About You
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in an underground metalliferous mining environment, with a strong focus on ventilation engineering.
  • Proficient in ventilation modelling and survey techniques.
  • Experience with Ventsim and Deswik CAD (or equivalent mine planning tools).
  • Sound understanding of statutory ventilation requirements and best practices in underground health and hygiene.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and contractor interfaces.
  • Adaptable and solutions-focused, with a commitment to continuous improvement.
What's on Offer
  • Competitive remuneration package including performance-linked incentives.
  • 8:6 FIFO or DIDO roster from major transport hubs (residential option available).
  • Long-term career prospects within a technically challenging and rewarding mining environment.
  • A key technical role in a site-wide growth phase backed by long-life orebody and strong investment.
  • A collaborative team culture that values safety, innovation, and operational excellence.
