Tagai State College SchoolTech program is inviting applications for the temporary position of Community Liaison Officer to join our team within our school community at Tagai State College until 5 December 2025, unless otherwise determined.

Tagai State College has secured approx. $2 million in funding through DYJESBT to run the SchoolTech program for Grade 11 and 12 students in 2024-2026 (3 years), with the vision of making this sustainable into the future.

About The College

Tagai State College comprises 16 Primary Campuses and 1 Secondary Campus across 15 Islands and 48 000 square kilometres in the beautiful Torres Strait. This position is based at the Secondary Campus on Thursday Island.

About SchoolTech

SchoolTech enables students to combine their QCE studies, Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses and Structured Work Placement, and is focused on preparing students for employment and facilitating a smooth transition from school to work.

Within SchoolTech, there is a strong focus on sustainable partnerships, particularly with, Employers, Industry bodies and TAFE Queensland.

About The Role

The Community Liaison Officer's role includes (but is not limited to) the following responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies for effective links between home and the SchoolTech program and related issues and to encourage greater interest and participation in school activities and programs.
  • Facilitate opportunity for gaining parent feedback in regards to the SchoolTech program.
  • Promote liaison activities for the SchoolTech program to provide information to parents, the school and its community, and facilitate community development activities to improve relations between the school and its community.
  • Act as the contact for parents/carers of students involved in the SchoolTech program and the community to determine relevant issues for improved relationships between the school and the community.
  • Plan and deliver or organise public presentations, and inform and educate parents and community members/groups about educational trends and policies specifically related to the SchoolTech program.
  • Establish and monitor school and community networks relevant to the position's role.
  • Develop and maintain a register of community and classroom helpers where required and provide relevant information for parents/carers.
  • Assist in recruiting and resourcing of volunteer help where required, including the coordination of a volunteer program.

Please note: There is no housing attached to this position. Applicants must live or have available accommodation on or close to Thursday Island.
