Overview

The University of South Australia (UniSA) Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) is seeking to recruit Community Representatives who can contribute a broad community or consumer perspective. This is a voluntary role with an honorarium paid for each meeting attended. Appointees cannot be currently engaged in medical, scientific, legal, or academic work, and must not have a paid affiliation with UniSA. Retirees or individuals previously involved in these areas are encouraged to apply.

HREC meetings are generally held on Monday mornings, with 8 to 10 meetings scheduled each year, and are mostly conducted online via videoconferencing. A small number of members will be appointed to balance workload and availability across the year. We welcome applications from people with diverse life experiences and backgrounds.

Responsibilities
  • Responding to meeting requests.
  • Reviewing meeting papers, which are digitally distributed 2 weeks prior to the meeting.
  • Attending meetings, which mostly occur online via remote videoconference.
  • Contributing to discussion at meetings with an unbiased and professional approach.
  • Maintaining timely and efficient communication with the Committee Chair and Executive Officers.
  • Participating in ongoing training.

Qualifications / Requirements

General requirements: interested individuals should bring a broad community perspective and be able to contribute to discussions with fairness and professionalism. No current paid affiliation with UniSA is allowed. Prior involvement in medical, scientific, legal, or academic work is not a requirement, and retirees or individuals with related experience are encouraged to apply.
