About the Opportunity
The primary purpose of the Principal Inspector (Occupational Hygienist) is to formulate and provide high-level advice and expert consultancy to SafeWork SA on current and emerging workplace hazards, with a particular focus on human factors and occupational hygiene.
The Principal Inspector (Occupational Hygienist) contributes to the management of SafeWork SA's service delivery by providing mentoring, coaching, and advisory support to team members. The incumbent operates within a politically sensitive environment to address complex organisational, operational, and staff issues.
The Principal Inspector (Occupational Hygienist) will be responsible for identifying and delivering coordinated hygiene-based programs across various industries within South Australia. Additionally, the role involves providing specialist advice and assistance in the delivery of statewide intervention activities and representing SWSA at state and national levels within their area of expertise.
To succeed in this role, candidates should have a relevant degree in science, applied science, or engineering, including coursework in quantitative science or occupational hygiene subjects (biochemistry, microbiology, chemistry, occupational toxicology, epidemiology, and hazards). Candidates should also possess comprehensive and current knowledge in one or more areas related to workplace health hazards, including familiarity with state and national initiatives.
