Get to Know our Team:
In Agoda's Back End Engineering department, we build scalable, fault-tolerant systems and APIs that host our core business logic. Our systems cover inventory and pricing, product information, customer data, communications, partner data, booking systems, payments, and more. These mission-critical systems change frequently with dozens of releases per day, so we employ state-of-the-art CI/CD and testing techniques to ensure zero downtime. We use languages like Scala and Go, data technologies like Kafka and Aerospike, and agile development practices. We hire great people worldwide and empower them to succeed, making a big impact on projects like Flights and Packages.

The Opportunity:
The Engineering Manager role at Agoda is one of the most significant and challenging positions. The ideal candidate is hands-on, technically excellent, with strong engineering principles, and exhibits strong leadership and people development skills. We seek world-class development managers to lead one or more engineering teams.

In this Role, you'll get to:

  • Be hands-on – writing and reviewing code, coaching engineers.
  • Have a passion for engineering and building scalable, elegant systems.
  • Do full-stack engineering: infrastructure, client side, back end, performance, data, etc.
  • Develop people: inspire and help team members achieve their potential, integrate new talent.

What you'll Need to Succeed:

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Java, Scala, C#).
  • Strong experience in systems architecture, especially in complex, scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
  • Operational responsibility experience as a system owner.
  • Knowledge of lower-level engineering (garbage collection, threading, etc.).
  • DevOps culture: automation, CI/CD, agility.
  • Understanding of application security.
  • Passion for technology and the Internet.
  • Experience in agile development teams.
  • Experience managing engineering teams with 5+ direct reports.
  • Autonomous decision-making, ownership, KPI setting.
  • Data-driven decision making.

It's Great if you have:

  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages.
