JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the preparation of tissue samples for microscopic examination. The Histology Technician provides the foundational work required for accurate diagnosis by pathologist by ensuring that tissue specimens are preserved, embedded, sectioned and stained in a manner that renders them identifiable and analyzable under a microscope.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Specific:

• Provide safe and effective patient care in the clinical setting. (EF)
• Prepare slides of specimens to enhance visibility under a microscope. (EF)
• Assist with laboratory slide preparation and delivery operations. (EF)
• Collaborate professionally with digital imaging implementation team to ensure success. (EF)
• Confirm slides are scanned as completed cases. (EF)
• Load prepared microscopic slides onto digital image scanner for pathologist review. (EF)
• Perform quality assurance evaluation on scanned images. (EF)
• Prepare and analyze data metrics related to imaging system reliability. (EF)
• Serve as primary resource for equipment knowledge, troubleshooting, and data information regarding imaging system. (EF)
• Understand and follow all laboratory accreditation standards (OSHA, EPA, CLIA). (EF)

Hospital:

• Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures.
• Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital's Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations.
• Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital's Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines.
• Performs within professional Scope of Practice at all times.

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree or college coursework in a relevant scientific discipline

EXPERIENCE

Required: At least one year of experience in the healthcare field

Preferred: Training and dedicated experience related to the Mohs procedures and CLIA certification requirements.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Required: Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills and organizational ability

Preferred: Familiar with medical terminology, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, experience with an electronic medical record platform, knowledge of CLIA policies and procedures, experience working in a Mohs surgery

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Required: Ability to become certified as a Histology Technician.

Preferred: Current certification as a Histology Technician.
