
Field Technician

Field Technician role based in Western Australia, Australia. You will provide expertise in the installation, commissioning and maintenance of customer access and core networks, including long haul DWDM transmission systems, IP and Voice networks and services.
A company vehicle, laptop and phone will be provided to support you in your role. You will have the opportunity to participate in a 24/7 on-call support roster maintaining one of the largest optical fibre networks in Australia.
Applicants must hold current Australian citizenship status to meet governmental criteria for an NV1 Baseline Clearance application, which is essential for this role.
What You'll Be Doing Day-to-day- Installation and commissioning of optical network equipment
- QA of network builds including internal and external plant
- Diagnose and rectify faults on the network within SLA
- Ensure no unplanned network outages
- Inspect, observe and conduct maintenance programs on the network and facilities to ensure our network is operating at optimal performance
- Ensure that network restoration following any unscheduled outage is achieved with minimum interruption to the operation of the network
- Ensure that all planned network augmentation/upgrades are achieved with minimum disruption and with the customer satisfied
- Maintain and protect all network assets in allotted regions
- Ensure all easement/property owners/occupiers are aware of, and respect, the network components that lie on their property
- Ensure all property owners are aware of and understand their responsibilities to the assets of the network, to minimise any damage
- Ensure any damaged/stolen assets are replaced in a timely manner
- Develop, coordinate and mentor staff and contractors in overcoming all service threatening and service failure situations
- Participation in 24/7 on-call support roster
- Travel to remote parts of Western Australia and on occasion, interstate
- Extensive experience in construction, operation and maintenance of optical fibre telecommunications networks in all environments
- Detailed understanding and skill in the interpretation of telecommunications network designs
- Working knowledge of IP, SDH, DWDM and xPON transmission equipment and DC power systems
- Sound understanding of operating capabilities and characteristics of devices used in telecommunications optical fibre transmission networks
- Practical knowledge of external plant (fibre cabling, pit and pipe and optical splicing) is highly regarded
- Experience in the use and management of sub-contractors in the telecommunications environment
- Experience working with the public and other stakeholders in the delivery and repair of telecom assets
- Relationship management – ability to interact effectively with colleagues, clients, third party contractors and visitors, and a commitment to high-quality client service
- Ability to work autonomously and make decisions within own area of responsibility
- Demonstrated ability to analyse issues and solve problems with sound judgment
- Sound leadership and safety management
- Well-developed written communications skills (prepare correspondence, reports, submissions)
