What You'll Do
Sol de Janeiro is seeking a strategically focused and commercially experienced Director of Business Development - Asia Market Expansion to support the company's continued growth across Asia Markets to include China, Japan & Southeast Asia. In this role, you will help prioritize new market opportunities, strategize and support entry into new markets, assist in execution of market launches and support local market management. This role will serve as the lead operational and analytical liaison in the Global SDJ HQ in New York, supporting business activities in the region, driving forward market expansion efforts, and coordinating cross-functional execution. Responsibilities include conducting market research, developing go-to-market strategies, monitoring market trends, analyzing competitive landscapes, and business analysis and planning, launch preparation and project tracking and providing actionable insights to senior leadership. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, product, and operations, to ensure successful market entry and sustainable growth.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a proven track record in global business development, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multicultural environment. This position may require international travel and the ability to adapt to diverse business. This role is ideal for a candidate with strong commercial acumen, experience in international business or new market development and excellent communication and cross-functional management skills.
What You'll Be Working On
- Lead commercial and strategic planning efforts across APAC (China, SE Asia, Australia), including market analysis, retail distribution set up, investment evaluations, and business planning.
- Develop regional business cases and analysis to support market entry, distribution models, business expansion, and resource allocation decisions.
Market Expansion & Operational Readiness
- Support strategic assessments of market entry opportunities, helping to elevate and consider commercial, logistical, & regulatory implications.
- Monitor the broader Asia-Pacific region for developments that may impact business strategy, including economic, geopolitical, or operational changes.
- Collaborate with leadership to define long-term regional structure and future resource needs (e.g., local presence, partner transitions).
- Lead internal strategic analysis and due diligence for expansion activities.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Project Leadership
- Partnering with Project Management and Global Marketing, lead cross-functional project planning and execution for regional initiatives, ensuring tasks are completed on schedule and in alignment with global goals. Ensure that regional timelines and decisions are documented and communicated clearly to all relevant stakeholders.
- Liaise with internal departments (Finance, Legal, Operations, Strategy) to facilitate execution of international projects and drive issue resolution.
Executive Communications
- Prepare clear, executive-ready proposals, strategic memos, and presentation decks for internal leadership on regional performance, new initiatives, and commercial priorities.
- Anticipate stakeholder questions and information needs; ensure complete and accurate materials are available to support informed decision-making.
- Drive the preparation of strategic meetings and business reviews by consolidating input from cross-functional teams into clear, actionable updates.
- Own meeting documentation and follow-up tracking across initiatives related to the APAC region.
Must Haves
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Strategy, or a related field; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
- 6–8+ years of experience in commercial strategy, corporate development, international business, or financial planning roles.
- Strong understanding of P&L management, investment planning, and business case development.
- Exceptional project management skills with the ability to lead and coordinate across multiple functions.
- Demonstrated experience in global or regional roles, ideally with Asia-Pacific exposure.
- Highly skilled in building strategic presentations, financial models, and decision-support materials for senior leadership.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to drive execution in complex, fast-paced environments.
- Fluency in English required; proficiency in Mandarin or other Asian languages is a plus, but not required.
Salary Range
$150,000 - $180,000 USD
