Joining Arup
Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.
We are seeking a Senior Ecologist to provide high-level ecological advice and support across a range of infrastructure projects in Queensland. This role will combine independent and team-based work in both field and office settings, contributing to ecological assessments, reporting, data analysis, and client liaison. You will be instrumental in delivering major road, rail, water, and energy projects aligned with government and scientific guidelines.
The Queensland Environment team is uniquely positioned and empowered in the Arup business to help drive the business' transformational aspirations across Nature Positive, Natural Capital and Net Zero and to ensure that all our work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Join a passionate team of environmental specialists who bring a rare blend of professionalism, support, and good humour to everything we do. We're down-to-earth, driven by purpose, and committed to making a positive impact — without taking ourselves too seriously. If you're looking for a team that knows their stuff, has your back, and makes the workday genuinely enjoyable, we'd love to hear from you.
The Opportunity
- Lead and manage ecological components of large-scale, complex projects, including field assessments and reporting.
- Represent the organisation in client and stakeholder meetings, delivering expert ecological guidance.
- Mentor and support junior team members through training and technical development.
- Manage project planning, timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
- Ensure all ecological work complies with Arup's Management System and relevant legislative frameworks.
You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.
Is this role right for you?
- Tertiary qualifications in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Environmental Science, or a related field, with 7+ years of experience.
- Proven field expertise in Queensland's flora/fauna, including BioCondition assessments and regional ecosystem identification.
- Strong knowledge of Queensland and Commonwealth biodiversity legislation and environmental planning processes.
- Experience in ecological fieldwork, ecological impact assessments, and GIS-based data analysis and reporting.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and report writing skills, with the ability to thrive under pressure and in remote field conditions.
At Arup, we care about each member's success, so we can grow together.
Guided by our values, we provide an attractive total reward package that recognises the contribution of each of our members to our shared success. As well as competitive, fair, and equitable pay, we offer a career in which all of our members can belong, grow and thrive – through benefits that support health and wellbeing, a wide range of learning opportunities and many possibilities to have an impact through the work they do.
We are owned in trust on behalf of our members, giving us the freedom, with personal responsibility, to set our own direction and choose work that aligns with our purpose and adds to Arup's legacy. Our members collaborate on ambitious projects to deliver remarkable outcomes for our clients and communities. Profit Share is a key part of our reward, enabling eligible members to share in the results of our collective efforts.
