Early Childhood Educator Diploma

Ballarat, Victoria, Australia Ballarat City Council Full time

Multiple full-time fixed term contracts until December 2026

Multiple Casual roles also available

In line with the Safe Haven Program, you will be required to hold your Diploma of Early Childhood Education, along with 4 years of experience in the field.

As the program continues to grow and expand, we are looking for more passionate Diploma Qualified Early Childhood Educators to meet the increasing demand for quality education and care.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a research project that will inform future government funding for early childhood services and improve outcomes for families. You will work under the direction of the multidisciplinary leadership team to support the effective implementation of the Safe Haven program in Wendouree, targeting children aged 0-3 at enrollment. You will be part of a team providing quality education and care in a safe, secure, stimulating, and healthy environment, ensuring the developmental needs, interests, and experiences of each child are met.

About The Role

There will be five hours of contact per day as part of the Safe Haven program (from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm). Your day may continue with opportunities for professional growth, additional planning time, one-on-one guidance, and support from cross-functional leadership teams.

The program targets children aged birth to three years experiencing severe family stress and social disadvantage. The goal is that children facing significant adversity will experience a stable and enriching early learning program and enter school as confident and successful learners, developmentally on par with their peers.

We seek a passionate and committed Early Childhood Educator who will have the opportunity to own this role and participate in the program's implementation and operations.

Key features include high staff/child ratios, highly qualified educators, a dedicated pedagogical leader, an infant mental health consultant, and a family support worker—all with ample time for planning, reflection, and collaboration.

This challenging yet rewarding position is suited for an experienced early years professional knowledgeable about trauma-informed practice, attachment theory, and with a strong interest in a multidisciplinary approach and addressing the early years' needs of the children and families in the Ballarat community.

These are temporary full-time or casual roles until December 2026.

About You

You will demonstrate a genuine interest in meeting the needs of children and families, with the ability to work as part of a team of early childhood professionals with a holistic approach to care, education, and development, reflecting awareness of children's wellbeing.

Your strong communication and relationship-building skills will help you foster partnerships with parents, colleagues, and community members. You will naturally motivate and support educators across all aspects of service provision to achieve desired outcomes.

Experience working with vulnerable communities within a child-centered, trauma-informed, family-focused framework, along with respect for diverse social and cultural values, will support your success in this role.

The successful candidate will hold a relevant tertiary Diploma in early childhood (or equivalent approved by the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority) and substantial professional experience in early years services.

Next Steps

To apply, submit your application with a cover letter and current resume. Applications close on Sunday, 13 July 2025.

The successful applicant will undergo a full employment medical and police check.

Contact

For questions, contact Susan Martin, Coordinator of the Rowan View Children's Service, at 0408 304 705.

The City of Ballarat is an equal opportunity employer committed to a safe, inclusive, and diverse workplace.
