About the Role

Tenure: Fixed-term 12 months with possibility of extension or permanency.

You will be part of our high-performing legal team, providing expert advice across a wide range of matters—from contract negotiation and statutory interpretation to complex litigation and legislative consultation. You will work closely with the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel, support high-level legal strategy, manage external counsel, and liaise with senior stakeholders including the State Solicitor's Office and the Minister's Office.

This role offers the opportunity to influence policy, draft critical legal documents, and ensure compliance with the legislative frameworks that drive the State's strategic goals. You will contribute to decision-making and navigate complex legal terrain with clarity, confidence, and integrity.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice across contract negotiation, statutory interpretation, complex litigation, and legislative consultation.
  • Support high-level legal strategy, manage external counsel, and liaise with senior stakeholders.
  • Influence policy, draft critical legal documents, and ensure compliance with legislative frameworks.
  • Collaborate with the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel to empower agency teams.
Qualifications
  • Law degree and admission to legal practice in Western Australia.
  • Experience in in-house counsel roles with a strong grasp of commercial law, litigation, and government processes.
  • Strategic thinker with exceptional communication skills and the ability to lead with autonomy and professionalism.
