Overview

Role: Lawyer in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). Provides legal support to Defence leaders at all levels; ensures compliance with legal obligations for military operations and aviation; assists commanders with personnel management; and supports the military justice system.

Base pay

A$80,000.00/yr - A$90,000.00/yr

Salary after training

Upon completion of initial military and employment training, you will enjoy a salary package starting from $93,973.

Responsibilities
  • Provide legal support to Defence leaders at all levels
  • Ensure that military operations and aviation comply with legal obligations
  • Assist commanders with personnel management
  • Ensure the military justice system runs smoothly
  • Advise on practice areas including Military Administrative Law, Military Operations Law, Military Discipline Law, and other areas (such as workplace health and safety, copyright law, environmental law, and financial delegations and government contracts)
  • Support leadership development and mentorship as an Air Force Officer

Location

Following training, you may be posted to major Air Force bases around Australia, including RAAF Base Amberley, Williamtown, or Edinburgh.

Eligibility & requirements

Minimum eligibility: 17 years at enlistment and Australian citizenship.

  • tertiary qualifications in Law (e.g., Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD))
  • admitted to practice as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of an Australian state or territory
  • current practising certificate with a state or territory Law Society or immediate eligibility to obtain one
  • work or life experience relating to appropriate skills
