Export Finance Australia (EFA) is the government's export credit agency.
We provide financial expertise and solutions to drive sustainable growth that benefits Australia and our partners. Through our loans, guarantees, bonds and insurance options we enable SMEs, corporates, and governments to take on export-related opportunities, and support infrastructure development in the Pacific region and beyond. Due to the continued growth of our business, we are now seeking to appoint a General Manager, Brand, Media & Communications to our team.
Reporting to the Chief People & Corporate Affairs Officer, this person will be responsible for leading EFA's brand, customer marketing, and media communications strategy. The role protects and grows the organisation's reputation while building advocacy and brand alignment across all communications—spanning corporate content, digital, advertising, acquisition and retention campaigns, sponsorships, key brand initiatives and internal communications.
We're seeking a strategic, values-driven and commercially astute professional to lead EFA's brand presence, marketing strategy and media engagement. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to influence how we tell our story – both in Australia and offshore – and to drive real impact for Australian exporters, infrastructure projects and government priorities across South-East Asia, The Pacific, defence and critical minerals sectors. As a government entity that works closely with business, EFA is seeking a person with strong experience in both government and the private sector.
THE ROLE
Location: Sydney; with some flexibility
Role Type: Full-time, Permanent
- Brand and Marketing Leadership: You will drive an integrated brand and customer marketing strategy aligned to EFA's strategic goals.
- Campaign excellence: You will design and deliver performance driven, insight-led campaigns across acquisition, retention and customer engagement.
- Strategic Communications: You will lead internal and external communications, including executive messaging, stakeholder engagement and government reporting.
- Media Relations:You will take the lead on developing a proactive media strategy that builds trust, visibility and reputation across key markets and sectors.
- Innovation and Analytics: You will champion data-driven marketing and automation tools, as well as leverage insights to improve ROI and campaign impact.
- Reputation Management: You will advise senior executives on brand risk, media strategy and stakeholder communications in dynamic and high impact contexts.
- Leadership: Foster a culture of creativity, accountability and high performance across a collaborative team, mentoring and coaching team members and leading by example.
ABOUT YOU
- At least 15 years of progressive leadership experience in brand, media, communications, digital marketing or related disciplines with demonstrated success in developing and executing enterprise-wide, integrated strategies across complex organisations.
- Deep expertise in B2B marketing and the financial services sector with a track record of using data, creativity and market insights to drive commercial outcomes and enhance customer and stakeholder engagement.
- Proven capability to lead transformational projects and strategic initiatives in dynamic environments – balancing long-term vision with agile execution and cross-functional delivery.
- Extensive experience building and influencing at senior levels, including executive teams, boards and government or external stakeholders. Skilled in navigating complex governance and regulatory environments.
- Proven ability to manage multiple and competing priorities in fast-paced, complex environments, whilst maintaining strategic focus and delivering high-quality outcomes.
- Demonstrated excellence in strategic planning, communications and campaign leadership – driving brand consistency, message alignment and measurable results across earned, owned and paid channels.
- Strong leadership experience managing high-performing teams and agency relationships, fostering collaboration and accountability to deliver outcomes aligned with organisational priorities.
- Advanced capability in interpreting marketing performance and digital analytics to inform strategic direction, campaign optimisation and investment decisions.
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement and change leadership skills, with the ability to translate complex strategies into compelling narratives and practical action.
- Recognised for innovative thinking and a proactive mindset, consistently delivering forward-looking marketing and communication strategies within evolving business and budget contexts.
- Proven experience managing budgets, with a strong track record or aligning financial resources to strategic priorities and ensuring cost-effective outcomes.
- Highly experienced in managing external vendor relationships, including contract negotiation, performance oversight and ensuring service delivery meets organisational standards and objectives.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in marketing, communications, business or a related field.Postgraduate qualifications are highly desirable.
