We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Ranger (Marine) - Bardi Jawi Joint Management to join our team in the West Kimberley District.

Under the direction of the Buccaneer Archipelago Parks Coordinator, this position manages the Bardi Jawi Gaarra Marine Park in the West Kimberley District in joint management with the traditional owners through:

  • Participation as a representative member of the Bardi Jawi Gaarra Joint Management Body and liaises directly with Traditional Owner partners to facilitate cultural and operational management strategies.
  • Supervision, works programming and career development of marine ranger team, aboriginal trainee marine rangers and/or fee for service rangers from Bardi Jawi Niimidiman Aboriginal Corporation.
  • Development and delivery of the annual Bardi Jawi Gaarra Marine Park's works program for parks and visitor services (PVS) and conservation, in accordance with departmental guidelines, policies, joint management agreements, management plans and budgeting requirements.
  • Undertaking marine park patrols and maintaining and skippering departmental vessels and equipment.

Selection Criteria

Applicants should address the following five (5) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than four (4) pages in total.
  • Experience in leading, supervising and managing teams (including Aboriginal staff), empowering individuals to work with confidence both in teams and independently to deliver agreed outcomes and priorities.
  • Evidence of well-developed oral and interpersonal skills and experience in liaising with traditional owners regarding joint management interest and activities including Aboriginal involvement in the workforce and have the ability to be involved in patrol and enforcement activities.
  • Experience and knowledge of implementing operational plans and works programs associated with marine, island and coastal management, preferably in the Kimberley region.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the maintenance and operation of vessels requiring a Coxswain Grade 1 (NC) as a minimum certificate of competency, with a preference for someone with Master
  • Knowledge of and experience in Aboriginal culture and evidence of ability to understand and work with Aboriginal people.
