About This Job

Position Information

Blairmount Public School is situated in Campbelltown, South West Sydney and is part of the Claymore Urban Rejuvenation Project. Set into the side of a green spaced hill with luscious extensive grounds, the school has unique architecture with all classrooms under one roof and each stage housed within the one wing. Indoor flexible learning spaces include stairs, break out rooms and external verandahs.

The school is growing and caters for a fluctuating enrolment, with a re-enrolment rate of 55.6%. The 2024 enrolment of 504 students is an increase in two classes since 2023. The student population includes 49 students who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and 40% of students who have English as an Additional Language or Dialect. The school has a Family Occupation and Education Index of 127 and an Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage of 960, signifying an increasing socio-economic status of the local community as a result of the Rejuvenation Project.

Blairmount Public School has a Support Unit that consists of two Multicat class and two Autism classes. Assistant Principals Curriculum and Instruction work with teachers K-6 to build capacity in the provision of high quality teaching and learning and improve student outcomes in literacy and numeracy. The staff at Blairmount Public School engage in collaborative and reflective practices with teams released from class. The school is future focussed and has modern facilities with state of the art technology and resources, including 1 to 1 iPads K-6 and is acknowledged as an Apple Distinguished School. Blairmount Public School has strong wellbeing practices that promote a sense of respect, happiness and responsibility.

General Selection Criteria

  • Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  • Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  • Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  • Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary.

The leadership capacity to Close the Gap for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families.

Proven leadership experience to extend meaningful partnerships with the wider community.

An experienced leader who has demonstrated skills in leading the School Excellence Cycle and the school's Strategic Directions.

Evidence of passion for and advocation of Public Education with the capacity to equitably lead Blairmount Public School with kindness.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

Special Notes

This is an above centrally identified permanent position established through school funds. The successful candidate's continued appointment to this position will be subject to the continuity of funding, the ongoing requirement of the position and the educational needs of the school.

Should the funding or the requirement for the position cease, the teacher will receive nominated transfer status; please refer to the Staffing Procedure for the Teaching Service in NSW Public Schools for additional information.
