Whitehorse City Council is seeking an exceptional individual to join their Senior Leadership team as a Coordinator Governance. This is your opportunity to drive best-practice governance, provide expert strategic advice, and make a real impact in a dynamic local government environment.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Manager of Governance and Integrity, the Coordinator Governance at Whitehorse will see you work closely with the CEO, Mayor and Councillors, Executive Leadership Team, and wider organisation to enhance good governance and integrity practices. It's a 'broader than usual' role which will also encompass people leadership and will need someone who can offer critical thought to the governance function.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate the governance function and statutory functions associated with meetings, elections, registers and policies
• Facilitate and attend Executive Leadership Meetings, providing advice on governance related matters
• Provide advice and identify options for the resolution of governance issues to the Mayor and Councillors
• Promote governance initiatives around transparency, integrity and councillor support
• Ensure that policy/legislation compliance and risk management principles are adopted in all decision-making processes
• Form an integral part of the development, implementation and review of Governance and Councillor related policies
• Lead team planning, goals, budgets - reporting progress and trends

About You

As leader with a deep understanding of governance principles and a passion for public sector excellence you will bring:

• Strong diplomacy and stakeholder engagement ability
• Extensive experience in governance or integrity roles
• Comprehensive knowledge of the Local Government Act 2020
• Proven ability to lead teams and drive organisational change
• Analytical thinking and innovative problem-solving capabilities
• A commitment to ethical leadership and child safety

To be successful in this role you will have a relevant tertiary qualification and an established career in Governance, or degree qualification in business administration, management, legal or a related discipline. You will be politically astute, responsive and innovative with the capacity to drive governance best practice, corporate strategy, organisational improvement and transparency.

Please note that you will be required to attend out-of-hours council briefings and meetings.
