Overview

Permanent, hands-on Bitumen Tanker Maintenance Technician role focused on maintaining and repairing bitumen tankers for road construction operations. Work with specialised equipment and ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair bitumen tankers; ensure safe, efficient operation in line with compliance standards.
  • Conduct routine inspections; diagnose mechanical faults; perform preventative maintenance on tank systems (burners, pumps, valves, hydraulic components).
  • Maintain heating systems to keep bitumen at optimal temperature during transport and unloading.
  • Carry out welding and fabrication repairs; monitor and calibrate temperature and pressure controls; ensure safety, environmental, and transport compliance.
  • Work in workshop and on-site as required to support operational readiness and minimise downtime.
About You
  • Mechanical and hydraulic system knowledge
  • Experience with burner systems and pipework
  • Welding and fabrication skills
  • Understanding of hazardous materials handling (especially hot bitumen)
  • Strong safety awareness and PPE compliance
Key Requirements
  • Routine maintenance of bitumen tanks and associated equipment (valves, burners, pumps, hoses)
  • Inspecting and repairing heating systems (diesel burners or LPG systems) to maintain correct bitumen temperature
  • Servicing hydraulic systems used for loading/unloading bitumen
  • Checking insulation and structural integrity of tanks to prevent heat loss or leaks
  • Cleaning and flushing tanks to remove bitumen buildup or contamination
  • Testing and calibrating gauges and sensors (temperature, pressure, level indicators)
  • Performing welding, fabrication, and mechanical repairs as required
  • Ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, due to the flammable and hazardous nature of bitumen
