The Role
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Investigator who is dedicated to ensuring compliance with legislation and regulations.
As an Investigator in the Compliance and Regulatory Services (CARS) team, you will be responsible for conducting compliance assessments and investigations, preparing and presenting evidence for legal proceedings, coaching and guiding other CARS staff, and providing recommendations and advice to Council officers and other programs.
This role will see you but not limited to:
- Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to exceptional customer service, treating all internal and external customers with honesty, fairness, sensitivity, and respect.
- Collaborate effectively with your team leader to achieve agreed performance standards, providing and receiving regular feedback to drive continuous improvement.
- Conduct thorough investigations into alleged breaches of legislation regulated by CARS, issuing relevant notices as required.
- Take the lead in coordinating routine investigations, ensuring comprehensive and detailed procedures.
- Act as a mentor, providing guidance and assistance to regional staff involved in investigation and enforcement work.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on investigations and alleged offences, ensuring accuracy and adherence to Council investigation protocols.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of policies and procedures related to Council legislation and investigations, providing valuable feedback on their effectiveness.
- Liaise and collaborate effectively with the Brisbane City Legal Practice, seeking legal advice, preparing complaints, summons, and representing Council in court proceedings when required.

- Strong interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively in a team setting.
- Demonstrated time management and organisational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and achieve desired outcomes.
- Ability to acquire skills in investigating breaches of legislation, including gathering evidence, conducting interviews, preparing court briefs, and compiling evidence for prosecutions.
- Quick to grasp knowledge of policies, regulations, and guidelines related to Local Government licensing and regulatory compliance in Queensland.
- Customer service-oriented, with the ability to solve problems, negotiate solutions, and manage complex issues.
- Capable of providing authoritative written and verbal advice to supervisors and regional staff.
Desirable Skills:
- Prior experience in providing evidence in a court or tribunal setting.
- Familiarity with or the ability to quickly learn applicable Human Resource policies and procedures.
- Possession of a Certificate IV in Government Investigations or equivalent relevant work experience.
