Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Claims Manager, Executive & Professional Lines, based in our Sydney office.
At BHSI, we view every claim as an opportunity to strengthen our customer relationships. This role reports to the Head of Third-Party Claims and is an external customer facing role, leading our claims offering in all Executive & Professional lines, specifically Professional Indemnity, Directors and Officers Liability, Cyber and Financial Institutions, Management Liability and Employment Practices Liability. The successful candidate will be a critical part of our Executive & Professional Lines team, supporting the business goals and contributing on a strategic level.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of claims professionals, managing a broad portfolio of Executive & Professional lines claims in accordance with BHSI Claims Service Standards, which ensure the highest level of customer service and technical quality.
- Set expectations, coach, and develop teammates.
- Collaborate with the broader BHSI Executive & Professional lines team including underwriting and actuaries on claims trends, portfolio development, policy wordings and risk issues.
- Meet and participate in meetings with our customers and broker partners to communicate our "Claims is Our Product" promise, and working together with customers, brokers and vendors to drive claims to timely and appropriate solutions.
- As needed travel to customer / broker meetings, mediations, conferences and industry events.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A minimum of 15 years' experience handling a broad range of Executive & Professional lines claims for an insurer or in legal practice, with a demonstrated technical mastery in negotiating and settling complex claims.
- Legal qualifications are desirable but may not be essential for the right candidate.
- People management experience is required.
- Strong business acumen and an understanding of claims as a contributor to an overall insurance operation.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, leadership and negotiation skills.
- Ability and willingness to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently to achieve results and provide excellent customer service.
