South Australia Police – Police Officer

About the role:

This is a full-time police officer position within South Australia Police. You will join a team dedicated to making a difference and enabling safer communities in South Australia. Training will be conducted at our Police Academy at Taperoo, combining academic studies in law, policy, and procedure with practical and physical training.

After completing your training, you will be part of a team providing frontline services, including mobile patrols to prevent and detect crime, maintaining law and order, and participating in traffic policing and road safety campaigns.

Some key tasks include:

• Preventing, detecting, and investigating offences such as street offences, family violence, traffic, drugs, and alcohol.
• Securing and examining crime scenes and accidents to locate evidence.
• Maintaining public safety.
• Performing general patrols to minimize disturbances and crime.
• Investigating accidents, crimes, minor offences, and public complaints.
• Gathering evidence, arresting, and interviewing suspects.
• Testing suspected impaired drivers and issuing infringement notices for traffic offences.
• Directing and controlling traffic at congested areas.
• Participating in community engagement events.
• Providing advice and assistance to victims of crime and their families.
• Maintaining records and preparing reports.
• Attending court proceedings.

You will have opportunities for further training in over 40 professional specialities to find a role that fits your interests.

Upon permanent appointment, remuneration will be based on prior service, with experienced recruits potentially being appointed at a level up to Senior Constable. The salary range is approximately $96,000 to $112,000, including shift penalties, depending on experience and classification. To serve as a South Australian Police Officer, you must be:

• At least 18 years old at the time of application.
• An Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident.
• Able to meet medical, fitness, and psychometric requirements.
• Willing to complete operational training and carry/use operational safety equipment, including a firearm.
