We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Peer Worker with lived experience to join our innovative "Keeping Body in Mind" team helping and motivating mental health consumers to live a healthy lifestyle.
South Eastern Sydney Local Health District Mental Health Service is an industry leader in recovery-oriented, strengths-based and person-centred care. We are seeking an enthusiastic and suitably qualified and experienced Mental Health Peer Support Worker for this 16 hour per week position. The position is based at Sutherland Hospital in the Keeping Body in Mind Team as well as being part of a team of Peer Support Workers working across the service.
Interviews are expected to be held between 1 September 2025 and 5 September 2025.

Where you'll be working
KBIM, Community Mental Health, Sutherland Mental Health Service, located on The Sutherland Hospital campus, Caringbah.
This Peer Support Worker position is based on the Keeping Body In Mind team (KBIM). This position will work collaboratively with other team members (CNC, Dietician and Exercise Physiologist) to develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness and acceptability of targeted lifestyle and pharmacological interventions to reduce cardio-metabolic risk factors in consumers with mental health issues that impacts on physical health and well-being. The KBIM Peer Support Worker (PSW) will draw upon their lived experience of mental health concerns and their personal recovery journey, in particular the connection between their mental health concerns and their physical health. The KBIM PSW will develop empathetic relationships and support personal recovery for consumers of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District. The goal of the position is to support the consumer through their physical health journey by providing individual consultations, coaching, education and group interventions aimed at facilitating recovery principles of hope, choice, self determination and social connectedness.
The position will have a key role in the development of resources for consumers, their families and carers, and clinicians. The position will also participate in the development, delivery and evaluation of training to mental health clinicians, GP's and other key stakeholders.

To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.
- Personal experience as a consumer of Mental Health Services and ability to utilise the lived experience to support others in their own mental health recovery journey.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in health promotion or related discipline or extensive experience in the health promotion field, or combination of both study and work experience or for Non-Grad a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness and commitment to obtain.
- Experience working in a peer support/consumer worker role, with the ability to plan, implement and evaluate group and individual peer led interventions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current local, State and National legislation and standards relevant to mental health
- Demonstrated commitment to consumer led recovery principles including the physical health care of mental health consumers.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to provide quality written documentation through the use of proficient IT skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as an effective team member.
