Position Type: 15-month Fixed Term Contract, Part-Time (3 days per week) with possible extension

Location: Eastlakes and periodic outreach within the Eastern Suburbs and St George areas

Reports to: Therapeutic Team Leader

Who are we?

The Deli Women and Children's Centre is a non-profit community service established in 1979. We support women and children, particularly those affected by domestic and family violence (DFV), to live happy, healthy, safe, and thriving lives connected with family and the community.

The Deli is a safe environment where everyone is heard, believed, and respected. Our best-practice DFV service provides therapeutic and parenting support, workshops, and resources to our clients and the community. Our staff are trauma-informed and have the appropriate skills and qualifications to support women and their children affected by DFV and trauma.

What are we looking for?

The Domestic and Family Violence Counsellor will provide trauma-informed, client-centred therapeutic support to women affected by domestic and family violence. The role includes individual counselling, group facilitation, case management, and contributing to service delivery improvements to ensure high-quality, accessible support for clients.

The successful candidate will have specialist experience in the DFV sector, strong case management skills, and a commitment to working with women from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, and women with disabilities. Experience in somatic therapeutic interventions is essential, as The Deli has a strong focus on body-based trauma recovery approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual trauma-informed counselling and case management for women impacted by DFV.
  • Plan, facilitate, and evaluate group programs focused on trauma recovery and empowerment.
  • Integrate somatic therapeutic interventions into counselling practices to support trauma recovery.
  • Conduct risk assessments and safety planning with clients.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential case notes, client records, and reports.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure holistic client support.
  • Support client referrals and intake processes in coordination with the Client Experience Officer.
  • Advocate for clients' needs within the service system and refer to appropriate support networks.
  • Represent The Deli at interagency meetings, community events, and networking forums.
  • Stay informed about best practices, sector developments, and emerging trends in DFV counselling and trauma support.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation projects.
  • Any other reasonable duties as directed by the Therapeutic Team Leader.

Required Skills & Experience

We know that research shows women are less likely to apply for roles unless they meet 100% of the criteria. We understand that no one candidate will meet every requirement perfectly. If this role speaks to you, but you don't meet all criteria, we still encourage you to apply.

Tell us about your strengths and what you'd bring to the role—we're looking for the right person, not just the right résumé.

  • PACFA, ACA or AASW eligible qualification in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in a DFV counselling or support role.
  • Completion of specialist domestic and family violence training or willingness to undertake.
  • Demonstrated experience in trauma-informed practice and case management.
  • Experience in somatic therapeutic interventions, such as body-based trauma work, mindfulness, or sensorimotor psychotherapy.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency, particularly in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and CALD communities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the mandatory reporting obligations in the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998.
  • Commitment to feminist and social justice principles.
  • Valid Police Clearance and Working with Children Check.
  • Current NSW Driver's Licence.

Bonus Skills We'd Love to See

  • Experience in facilitating therapeutic and psychoeducation workshops.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Second language skills.

Why work with us?

  • Meaningful work supporting women and children impacted by DFV.
  • Collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Professional development opportunities and ongoing training.
  • Flexible work arrangements to promote work-life balance.
