About the role
The role of the Finance and Administration Officer is to participate in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of effective and efficient administrative and financial systems. The officer will also assist in the supervision, training, and development of the Youth Detention Centre's administrative and support staff.

Key responsibilities
As the Finance and Administration Officer, you will specifically:

  • Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Assist with managing financial systems for the payment of centre accounts, including monthly reconciliations, banking requirements, and tracking of payments.
  • Administer and oversee trust accounts for detained young people and petty cash accounts, including reimbursement and reconciliation.
  • Process requisitions and arrange for procurement of goods/services, excluding stores and medical consumables, in accordance with purchasing requirements, and prepare necessary purchase orders under the direction of the Manager Finance and Administration.
  • Assist in maintaining the Youth Detention Centre's asset register, including coordinating stocktakes of equipment.
  • Coordinate, arrange, and monitor travel requirements for young people, staff, and visitors.
  • Prepare written reports and routine correspondence as required, and maintain the accountable documents register for the Youth Detention Centre.
  • Participate productively and collaboratively as a team member in delivering support and services to clients.
  • Provide supervision and training to administrative and support staff in relevant Youth Detention Centre systems.
  • Assist with budgeting and analysis of the centre's financial position as required.
Role-specific/technical skills:
  • You understand the impacts of historical and contemporary policy and practices on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You have demonstrated ability to engage and communicate effectively and humbly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
