About The Opportunity

The Allied Health department provides services to both inpatient and community programs. The team includes physiotherapists, OTs, dietitians, speech pathologists, social workers, and Allied Health Assistants. This position requires a compassionate and innovative counsellor to work as part of the community palliative care multidisciplinary team, which comprises registered nurses, a palliative care consultant, social worker, and occupational therapist.

  • Bachelor degree, graduate diploma or masters in counselling or social work (essential), with minimum 2 years clinical experience in bereavement (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, non-judgmental support through active listening and effective communication.
  • Knowledge of the emotional and psychological stages of grief, including cultural sensitivity and an understanding of complex grief and its impact.

  • Eligibility for AASW membership or Counsellor to have membership of appropriate/relevant body e.g., PACFA, ACA, with significant postgraduate experience in social work and/or counselling practice with families and children and/or in health contexts.
  • A well-developed knowledge of the challenges facing bereaved families and a sound knowledge of relevant community resources and support services available to families.
  • Significant postgraduate experience in a variety of social work and/or counselling interventions/modalities including assessment, counselling, group work.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in professional education activities, service planning, and quality improvement activities.
  • Competent computer skills and ability to adapt to new IT systems.
  • NSW Drivers Licence
