The Role

We are seeking a Project Design Manager to join our Engineering team. This role will be instrumental in leading the design and delivery of our renewable energy infrastructure projects and will be responsible for managing the electrical engineering requirements to support both pre-contract and delivery phases of a project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the single point of responsibility for electrical design delivery performance across projects.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all design work assigned to the project.
  • Liase with the Project Manager on design delivery, multidisciplinary integration, and design performance to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Manage and report on scope, cost, and schedule aspects of design activities.
  • Implement all project design activities and ensure successful completion of design obligations.
  • Oversee the performance of all designers, ensuring appropriate quality management and assurance systems are implemented.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of Energy Infrastructure (particularly substations) and power infrastructure, with the ability to adapt quickly and provide innovative solutions.
  • Extensive experience in designing, constructing, and commissioning HV electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Expertise in civil, mechanical, control, protection, telecommunications, HV cable systems, and OHL systems components well regarded.
  • Broad technical understanding of HV connection solutions, power systems, and electrical networks.
  • Strong estimating skills in developing cost-effective, fit-for-purpose HV solutions.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships and deliver solutions that meet customer needs.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with a track record of delivering projects to time, cost, and quality objectives.
  • Demonstrated success as a change agent within a transforming organisation.
  • Ability to lead and collaborate effectively within a small multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status (e.g. CPEng or RPEQ) desirable
  • 5-10 years of experience, with significant site experience in HV substation construction preferred.
