Opportunities for Special Education Teachers - Regional

Western Australia Department of Education is seeking applications for Special Education teachers to fill vacancies across Western Australia. Opportunities are for a full-time contract including living and working in the Goldfields DAMA region.

Salary: $85,610 - $124,016 per annum (SEA GA 2023)

Who We Are Looking For

To teach in a Western Australian public school, you must have a recognised, completed initial teacher education qualification. This may be a completed Bachelor of Education, or equivalent; or an undergraduate degree and a post-graduate teaching qualification.

Eligibility and training
  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
  • complete the Department's Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
  • complete the Department's induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
Job Duties

The following outlines the main duties of the role. These are broad guidelines only.

  • planning and structuring learning in indoor and outdoor environments using a variety of materials and equipment
  • providing experiences to develop motor, social skills, confidence and understanding
  • promoting language development through storytelling, role play, songs, rhymes and discussions
  • observing students to evaluate progress and identify needs
  • discussing students' progress with parents
  • attending parent interviews, and staff and committee meetings
  • participating in community and family support programs as appropriate
  • supervising student teachers on placement

Our teachers undertake their duties in line with the School Education Act 1999.
