Position Summary

As an Industrial and Employment Relations (IR/ER) Consultant you will play a critical role in supporting aged care operations by providing expert advice on workplace relations, employment law, and industrial instruments. This role ensures compliance with sector-specific legislation and fosters a positive and fair working environment for staff across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist advice on employment legislation, modern awards (e.g. Aged Care Award), enterprise agreements, and Fair Work Act compliance
  • Support Managers and HR teams in managing employee relations issues including performance, misconduct, grievances, and disputes
  • Lead or support enterprise bargaining processes and negotiations with unions and employee representatives
  • Conduct investigations into workplace complaints, including bullying, harassment, and misconduct, ensuring procedural fairness and timely resolution
  • Deliver training and education to managers and staff on workplace rights, conflict resolution, and compliance with the relevant policy and legislation
  • Monitor and interpret changes in industrial relations legislation and aged care workforce reforms, advising on implications for the organisation
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing employment contracts, HR policies, and procedures tailored to aged care workforce needs
  • Represent the organisation in external forums such as Fair Work Commission hearings, conciliations, and regulatory audits
  • Collaborate with legal counsel and regulatory bodies (e.g., Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission) on complex employment matters
Selection Criteria
  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Law, Industrial Relations, or a related field
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in industrial and employment relations within the healthcare or aged care sector
  • Strong understanding of the Aged Care Award, Fair Work Act, and relevant enterprise agreements
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to engage sensitively with diverse staff groups
  • Experience in managing investigations and dispute resolution processes in a regulated care environment
  • High level of discretion, integrity, and professionalism
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
Desirable
  • Experience in union engagement and enterprise bargaining in aged care or healthcare settings
  • Legal qualifications or experience working in a legal advisory capacity
  • Familiarity with HRIS and case management systems used in aged care
