About Kelvin Grove State College

Located just three kilometres from Brisbane's CBD and adjacent to Queensland University of Technology, Kelvin Grove State College is part of a unique educational precinct.

The school is P-12 with three sub-schools:

  • Junior School - Prep to Year 5 (approx. 750 students)
  • Middle School - Year 6 to 9 (approx. 1,600 students)
  • Senior School - Years 10 to 12 (approx. 1,300 students)

About the role

In Term 4, this role will be Head of Year 6, with potential in 2026 to transition into Head of Year 7 or remain in Year 6, depending on the candidate's strengths and the needs of the Middle School Team.

The Head of Year is suited for a dedicated, motivated, and enthusiastic individual who can lead initiatives supporting student outcomes, working collaboratively within the team and community.

The ideal candidate will set high expectations, adopt a strategic approach, and provide holistic leadership for student management and wellbeing.

Responsibilities include:

As Head of Year, you will:

  • Support the academic, social-emotional, and wellbeing of the cohort alongside the Deputy Principal.
  • Lead and manage team efforts for cohort and College events.
  • Participate actively as part of the Heads of Year team, led by the Deputy Principal of Holistic Education.
  • Manage responsibilities related to student wellbeing, attendance, engagement, behaviour, and leadership.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement the Middle School pastoral care program.
  • Contribute as a teacher with a reduced teaching load, as detailed in the role description.
