Part-Time Position

Minimum 38 hours per week, rotating roster, 5 days per week including weekends.

Position Summary

Assists members in ordering eyeglasses and lenses, adjusts and dispenses eyeglasses and contacts, measures and determines bifocal and multifocal placement, processes orders, oversees non-licensed apprentices, cleans department area, and provides prompt and courteous member service. Follows safety and security procedures and standards.

Job Duties / Essential Functions

  • Coach, train, and mentor other Optical department employees.
  • Assist members with choosing eyeglasses frames and lens options appropriate to prescriptions.
  • Fit and adjust lenses to eyeglass frames.
  • Dispense eyeglasses and contacts.
  • Measure member's eyes for pupillary distance and bifocal placement.
  • Answer questions and address problems regarding prescriptions.
  • Place special orders with outside suppliers.
  • Stock department equipment, merchandise, and supplies.
  • Follow department procedures for production, record keeping, merchandising, and storage.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the department and register area.
  • Take optical measurements and educate members on suitable products.
  • Count register at sign-on and end of shift, order change, cash, and process payments including checks, credit, and debit.
  • Make deposits of excess funds and ensure accurate register funds.
  • Exercise discretion and confidentiality with patient information.
  • Follow safety and security procedures.
  • Assist in other warehouse departments as necessary.
  • Provide prompt and courteous customer service to members, employees, and suppliers.

Equipment Operation

  • Operate computer, phone, copier, cash register, and optical equipment such as pupilometer, lensometer, frame warmer, small pliers, and screwdrivers.

Non-Essential Functions

  • Assist with front-end duties and other departments as needed.

Qualifications

Education: High School Certificate or higher.

Licenses/Certifications: Experience in the Optical Industry beneficial.

Experience/Skills: Optometry or equivalent experience preferred. Demonstrated outstanding patient care, strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills. Basic knowledge of Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides). Basic math skills.

Note: Successful candidates will be required to undertake role and department-specific training within specified timeframes.
