Role Description/Criteria St Damian's Language Program follows the principles of the Teacher as Co-Learner model. This program follows an immersion model with all resources provided by MACS. We are currently seeking a language assistant to lead, teach via modelling in classes and support the Italian language program within the school. Ideally we are seeking someone who is fluent or a native speaker of Italian who is able to work with our staff and students to continue to embed the use of Italian. The successful applicant does not need to be a qualified teacher, however please note that a component of the role requires some classroom modelling and coaching and working with classroom teachers and students to increase the use of Italian. Our Languages program is delivered daily by teachers to encourage functional language use. Educational Support Officers with good Italian language skills are also encouraged to apply. The position is for two days (0.4) per week, this can be negotiated in terms of how the work is carried out over the week. The successful applicant will be willing and able to:

  • enrich and enhance the development of our school vision and culture.
  • be open to ongoing learning and development
  • be enthusiastic, motivated and team orientated
  • model, coach and teach the program to both students and staff
  • learn how to use student data to assess language attainment of students
  • demonstrate a willingness to nurture the faith of all in our community, actively supporting our Catholic school vision

Special Requirements

A good knowledge of Italian essential. Immediate availability an advantage. Please note that this position may be filled prior to the cut-off date if the suitable applicant is found. Applicants must have:
