About The Opportunity

An opportunity exists for a psychiatrist with sub-specialty training and expertise in child & adolescent psychiatry who wants to work in regional/rural NSW providing services to the population in the Western NSW Local Health District. The position is oriented to provide acute care to younger people in the CAMHS inpatient unit located at Bloomfield Hospital.

The position sits within the Mental Health Drug & Alcohol Services in Orange, a regional hub in the Western NSW Local Health District. Our Services are a critical part of the healthcare delivered in our local communities. We are at the forefront in the delivery of services to rural and remote populations across a catchment area of 400,000 square kms. Other regional centres include Dubbo and Bathurst which also function as clinical hubs to provide services both locally and to our many rural and remote towns.

Where you'll be working

You will be based at Orange Health Service, a part of the Western NSW Local Health District. For more information on living and working in our region, visit the Western NSW Health Careers site.

Psychiatrists consult with patients and clinical teams at Bloomfield/Orange Hospital; Bathurst or Dubbo Base Hospitals; associated community services in Orange, Bathurst, Dubbo, Parkes, Cowra, Forbes, Mudgee, Bourke or Lightning Ridge.

Inpatient services include adult units for high dependency, acute and sub-acute treatment; rehabilitation units that are gender specific, of medium security and for medium and longer term intervention; and acute adolescent and older persons units. Community services are provided in the locations above and there is outreach from some locations reaching a number of even smaller population centres throughout the region.

Selection Criteria
  • MEDICAL EXPERT: medical degree (registerable/registered) with the Medical Board of Australia, Fellowship of the RANZCP or equivalent, and sub-specialty training and relevant qualifications in child and adolescent psychiatry with experience in inpatient/outpatient/community settings.
  • COMMUNICATOR: skills in verbal and written communication and the use of computer and telemedicine technology.
  • COLLABORATOR: ability to work with patients, families, multidisciplinary teams, medical colleagues, other health professionals, and relevant government and non-government organisations.
  • MANAGER: clinical leadership, supervision of a multidisciplinary team, and performance of management/administrative tasks as relevant; ability to work within clinical governance structures and contribute to clinical quality improvement.
  • ADVOCATE: applying recovery, illness prevention and health promotion principles in work with patients, families and carers.
  • SCHOLAR: commitment to continuing medical education and professional development, mentoring junior colleagues, and educating others.
  • PROFESSIONAL: adherence to ethical conduct, policies, guidelines, integrity, honesty, compassion and respect.
  • HOLD a NSW driver licence and be prepared to travel as required.
