Clinical Nurse Consultant

Overview

Clinical Nurse Consultant (Grade 1) – Hospital Drug and Alcohol Consultation Liaison. Permanent Part Time, 30 hours per week. Primary base at Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick, with potential rotation to other sites including St George Hospital and Sutherland Hospital. Applications close Sunday 28th September, 2025.

SESLHD Drug and Alcohol Service provides treatment and support for individuals with alcohol, prescription or illicit drug use and for families and carers. The unit operates outpatient services at Langton Centre (Surry Hills), St George Hospital (Kogarah), Caringbah Community Health Centre (Sutherland Hospital), and inpatient services at Sydney Hospital, Prince of Wales, St George and Sutherland Hospitals.

Responsibilities

• Deliver specialist drug and alcohol nursing consultancy services in hospital and inpatient mental health settings in accordance with the NSW Health Hospital Drug & Alcohol Consultation Liaison (HDACL) Model of Care and SESLHD Emergency Department Assessment Unit (EDAU) Model of Care.
• Provide clinical leadership, education and participate in research, quality improvement activities and clinical services planning as per the Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 1 criteria.
• Contribute to care coordination, multidisciplinary team collaboration, and linkage to identified treatment and support services for patients with drug and/or alcohol related issues.
• Apply clinical expertise in client-centred consultancy and work independently as required.

Selection Criteria / Qualifications

• Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and a current NSW Driver's Licence.
• Minimum 5 years of full-time equivalent post-registration experience with approved post-registration nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field, or equivalent qualifications/experience.
• Clinical leadership skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary framework with a commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills across various mediums and knowledge of the practice development framework in clinical practice.
• Experience in development or change of clinical practice underpinned by evidence-based research; ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning.
• Skills in clinical teaching, identifying education needs, and competency in the use of contemporary information systems.
• Ability to apply clinical expertise in client-centred consultancy and to work independently.

What You'll Be Doing

Work a 7-day roster with 8- or 10-hour shifts, primarily based at Prince of Wales Hospital with potential rotation to St George and Sutherland Hospitals.
