Summary descriptions and responsibilities describe a paraeducator who supports students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP). Duties may include participating with students in learning activities off school grounds, assisting with academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and physical needs, and facilitating mastery of grade-level or Alternate Academic Achievement Standards. The paraeducator provides instructional and classroom management supports and may perform related clerical tasks to support teachers and staff. Some roles require promotion opportunities after probation and training hours are completed.
Responsibilities- Support student learning and well-being in accordance with IEP goals.
- Assist students with academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and physical needs; support access to the curriculum.
- Participate in learning activities with students off school grounds if required.
- Provide instructional and classroom management support in general education and specialized settings.
- Assist with clerical tasks and support teachers and other staff in all classrooms or learning environments.
- Monitor student behavior and assist with implementation of instructional programs.
- Be available for flexible scheduling and potential changes in location/program as needed.
- Complete required training and probationary period for advancement from grade 15 to grade 16.
- Education, Training, and Experience: One of the following options:
- 1) Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred; coursework related to education (e.g., behavior management, instructional strategies); 1 year of related experience preferred; or two to four years in a structured setting if no related coursework.
- 2) At least 48 college credits and two years of related experience in a structured setting.
- 3) Two years of experience in a structured setting with completion of the ParaPro Assessment (qualifying score 455+).
- 4) Any combination of applicable education, training, and experience to perform effectively.
- CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: None.
- Ability to communicate effectively, follow instructions, and use standard computer tools (Google Workspace, MS Office, web-based instructional tools); willingness to learn SSPGS core competencies.
