Tenure : Full-time Permanent

Salary : From $68,864 per year (plus superannuation)

Required Skills and Experience :

  • AQF Certificate III (or higher / equivalent) qualification in Agriculture (Pig Production);
  • At least 3 years recent relevant experience in a medium to large size commercial piggery

Position Summary :

On behalf of our client, Global Skilled Employment Services is looking for a skilled and experienced Senior Piggery Stockperson to join the production team of a piggery company with multiple farm sites.

Must have strong communication and time management skills, be self-motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a team.

Tasks and duties include :

  1. Supervise the site and facilities, including human resources, physical resources, safety requirements, consumables, documentation, and measurement devices.
  2. Maintain and ensure compliance with the Company Quality Assurance program, keeping all relevant documentation current.
  3. Supervise data collection and recording to ensure accurate information for stock and inventory control.
  4. Undertake specific tasks assigned by management to meet environmental, quality, and safety goals.
  5. Implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime.
  6. Supervise trial sheds, collect, and record data according to trial protocols.
  7. Assist in the selection of breeding stock and pigs for sale.
  8. Conduct daily inspections of livestock, ensuring proper feeding, watering, and environmental conditions. Supervise a less experienced Stockperson.
  9. Inspect livestock for health issues, assess, treat, and record in accordance with the Herd Health Plan and industry standards.
  10. Euthanize sick or injured stock humanely, following the Model Code of Practice for Animal Welfare – Pigs 3rd edition.
  11. Perform post-mortem examinations and report findings.
  12. Supervise and participate in mating processes, including artificial insemination.
  13. Oversee the birthing process, including internal assessments during parturition to minimize stillbirths.
  14. Participate in training sessions and workshops as required.
  15. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Unit Manager.

Other skills required :

  • Good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Extensive knowledge in animal husbandry, welfare, and pig production;
  • Knowledge of computer systems is an advantage.
