Service Stream's Utilities division is expanding, and we're looking for a talented Technical Bid Writer to join our dynamic and growing team. In this pivotal role, you'll be responsible for crafting persuasive, competitive, and high-quality bid submissions that position us for success in securing new business opportunities.

As a key contributor to our growth strategy, you will apply your exceptional writing skills, strategic insight, and research capabilities to develop tailored responses that meet the unique specifications of each tender. You'll collaborate closely with technical experts, project managers, and senior stakeholders to deliver compelling proposals that showcase Service Stream's value, innovation, and commitment to excellence.

Nature of position: Permanent, Full Time

Location: Melbourne / Brisbane

Reporting Line: Estimating and Proposals Manager – Utilities

Key Responsibilities

Bid Preparation:

  • Proactively source and synthesise information from various departments to develop accurate and compelling responses to tender questions and evaluation criteria.
    • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams—including project managers, subject matter experts, and senior executives—to gather critical insights and ensure alignment with project objectives.
      • Conduct comprehensive research into clients, industry trends, and competitors to inform tailored, strategic, and client-focused bid responses.
        • Develop and maintain detailed bid schedules, ensuring all components are delivered on time and in accordance with submission deadlines.
          • Analyse tender documentation to identify key evaluation metrics, contributing to the development of clear, competitive, and winning bid strategies. Content Development:
            • Write and edit persuasive, compelling and accurate content for tender responses, ensuring all information is relevant, well-structured and aligned with the tender requirements.
            • Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather technical information and translate complex concepts into clear, concise and easily understandable language.
            • Customise pre-existing content and templates to create tailored bids that address the specific needs and objectives of each tender.

Proposal Coordination:

  • Establish and maintain a central repository of bid-related documents, templates and past responses for future reference and knowledge sharing.
  • Ensure compliance with all tender requirements, including formatting guidelines, submission instructions and contractual obligations.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure the bid is error-free, coherent and effectively communicates the organisation's value proposition.

Relationship Building:

  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, including operations, legal and finance, to gather accurate and up-to-date information for bid development.
  • Maintain positive relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and timely responses to queries related to bid submissions.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits and clarification sessions to gain a deeper understanding of client requirements and foster strong relationships.

About You

This opportunity is ideal for a highly motivated, results-driven professional with a passion for delivering exceptional client outcomes and a strong ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

  • Experience working for a Utilities and Infrastructure contractor or provider highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience in bid writing or similar discipline.
  • Experience in a proposal team setting and working with operations groups.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Journalism, Publishing, Business, Commerce or a related discipline highly desirable
  • Strong Commercial Acumen and Technical Knowledge
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar bid role
  • Experience and/or knowledge of utilities industry
  • Excellent organisation and time management abilities
  • Strong business and commercial acumen
  • Detail-oriented and highly skilled Technical Bid Writer crafting compelling, compliant, and persuasive bid proposals for government and private sector contracts. Adept at translating complex technical information into clear, structured, and compelling content that meets client requirements and increases win rates. Strong ability to collaborate with SMEs, project managers, and sales teams to develop high-quality proposals within tight deadline
  • Highly developed verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office suite and Adobe Create Cloud suite of applications
