Aboriginal Engagement Directorate and Native Title NegotiationThe Aboriginal Engagement Directorate aims to elevate the Aboriginal Affairs portfolio and drive systemic change across Government, with an objective to improve the economic prosperity and wellbeing of Aboriginal people and communities in Western Australia.
The Native Title Negotiation team, within the Aboriginal Engagement Directorate, leads the resolution of a range of native title related matters, with a focus on agreement-making with native title parties to promote positive social, economic, cultural and community outcomes for Traditional Owners in Western Australia. This includes leading and coordinating whole of Government native title compensation negotiations, instructing on native title litigation and providing timely policy advice to facilitate a whole of government approach to deliver benefits to Aboriginal communities. We are looking for highly motivated and proven leaders to join our team. The successful candidates will need to have a high level of curiosity to approach complex matters and develop solutions. About the RoleAs Principal Policy Officer you will:
- Provide high level policy advice and undertake complex research and analysis in developing whole of government solutions to complex cross-agency matters.
- Use project management skills to lead the development and implementation of projects through engagement with native title organisations and close collaboration with a range of WA Government agencies.
- Evaluate the broader environment to ensure appropriate research and information is available to develop policy options and apply different methodologies to identify whether a policy approach will achieve required outcomes.
- Engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to build consensus on the appropriate response to emerging issues and the development of recommended options through clear, succinct briefings and communications.
We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate the following capabilities.
- Strategic thinking, with strong experience in policy development and can influence and drive evidence-based outcomes.
- Demonstrated strong project management and organisational skills in the context of developing whole of government solutions to complex matters.
- Achievement in building collaborative and productive relationships working with diverse stakeholders across Government and the community.
- Effectively communicate complex information effectively to a variety of audiences.
