About The Role
As Principal Public Policy & Government Relations WA, you will play a key role in advancing BHP's interests across Western Australia's political, policy and regulatory landscape. Working closely with – and reporting to – the Manager Public Policy & Government Relations WA, you'll help deliver integrated policy, advocacy and engagement programs that support WAIO and Nickel West priorities, ensuring BHP is a credible and constructive contributor to policy development and decisionmaking and enhance BHP's reputation and licence to operate.

The role requires senior experience and deep understanding of the political and regulatory landscape in Western Australia and the ability to contribute to strategic advocacy and campaigns, as well build trusted relationships across government and policy stakeholders.

About You
You are a politically astute, policyminded professional with demonstrated experience in government relations, public policy or public affairs within complex, multistakeholder environments.

Your background may include senior advisory roles in government (e.g., Ministerial office), leadership roles in public policy or corporate affairs, public affairs consulting, or senior public sector experience. Tertiary qualifications in public policy, economics, political science, law or commerce are well regarded.

  • Government relations expertise: Proven capability to establish and maintain influential relationships across government and to translate business objectives into credible advocacy and policy positions.
  • Insightled judgment: Ability to source and critically assess qualitative and quantitative information, articulate insights and apply them to decisionmaking.
  • External Affairs & business acumen: Understanding of the External Affairs value chain, BHP's operating model, and how to optimise processes to deliver business and social value.
  • Leadership & teaming: Inclusive mindset with a coaching orientation; contributes to a highperformance culture, rolemodelling BHP's values – Doing what's right, Seeking better ways, and Making a difference.

  • Assets supported: WAIO and Nickel West – partnering across Corporate Affairs, operations and functional teams to align state and national advocacy.
  • Location: Perth, Western Australia.
