What does the job look like? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a State Service Manager to lead our flagship Erskine Park workshop in Sydney. This is a pivotal leadership role with responsibility for the full operation of one of the largest and most modern fleet workshops in the industry. You will oversee day-to-day activities, ensure the delivery of high standards in safety, quality and service, and take direct accountability for profit and loss, cost management and operational efficiency.

Your focus will be on balancing technical performance with commercial outcomes – improving productivity, reducing downtime and creating long-term value for the fleet operation. You will work closely with suppliers, vendors and fleet management teams to enhance performance and ensure internal customer and contract expectations are consistently met. Through hands-on leadership, you will guide and develop a diverse team of service advisors, mechanics and apprentices, fostering a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement across the workshop.

Key responsibilities
  • Accountability for workshop profit and loss, ensuring cost efficiency whilst maintaining service quality.
  • Drive compliance with organisational policies, processes and safety standards.
  • Partner with fleet teams, suppliers and contractors to optimise operational and financial outcomes.
  • Manage service delivery in line with contractual requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement to uplift productivity and fleet performance.
  • Motivate, support and develop a diverse team, ensuring capability growth and safety-first operations.
Are you the one?

We are seeking a qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, commercially minded professional with strong experience in truck fleet or heavy vehicle workshop operations, who understands how to manage both operational output and financial performance. You may be already managing a large-scale workshop, or ready to step up from a regional or multi-site role into one of the most significant facilities in the fleet industry. In either case, you will bring:

  • Proven leadership experience in a fleet or heavy vehicle workshop environment.
  • Strong knowledge of profit and loss and cost management within a commercial setting.
  • A practical, people-focused leadership style, ensuring safety, service delivery and performance accountability.
  • A proactive and improvement-driven outlook, with the ability to make sound commercial decisions.

This role presents the opportunity to play a pivotal part in Linfox's fleet operations, lead a major site and make a clear impact on both operational and financial performance.

What We're Looking For
  • Extensive experience working within truck fleet workshops, ideally having advanced from technical roles to leadership positions.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop large workshop teams.
  • A strong track record of implementing process improvements and upholding the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Readiness to take on the responsibility of managing a very large, complex workshop operation.
You can demonstrate
  • Trade qualifications as a Truck Mechanic specialising in Heavy Commercial Vehicles
  • High level of computer literacy, particularly in SAP and MS Office suite.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor, train, and support team development.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • HR/HC Licence and strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Professional demeanour with an outcome-focused approach.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to learning and continuous improvement.
  • Reliability and dedication in an essential services industry.
  • Strong rapport-building skills with stakeholders.
  • Dedication to high standards of safety compliance and customer service.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol testing.
What's in it for me?

On-going training and development, competitive salary and a company vehicle.

This role offers a challenging and rewarding professional journey with opportunities for collaboration and continuous learning. You will be part of a dynamic team where your contributions are vital to operational success.

At Linfox, we focus on providing an inclusive and diverse workplace where our people can perform at their best. We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, identities and perspectives; people of diverse genders, ages, religions, abilities, sexual orientations and cultures (including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples) are encouraged to apply.
