Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Block, Inc. Full time

Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams — People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more — provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.

The Role

The Block HR Specialist team plays an important role in ensuring effective HR management of key people programs and lifecycle activities for employees across all business functions. Our goal is to ensure flawless execution across people programs and deliver a great employee experience across day-to-day HR activities. Block is looking for an HR Specialist on our Global People Operations team to provide operational support to our HR Business Partner (HRBP) teams. In this role, you will partner closely with HRBPs to drive HR programs and initiatives to completion and will collaborate with cross-functional partners to support projects both within and across business functions. You will report to the HR Specialist Lead.

You Will
  • Partner closely with HRBPs to provide ongoing operational support, such as preparing and analyzing reports, executing offboarding processes, and managing bulk employee-data changes.
  • Collaborate with HRBPs on the delivery of local and/or global project work in support of their client groups including team reorganizations, talent reviews, team-building exercises, M&A work, and policy design.
  • Execute both operational and project-based work across various HR programs, such as performance evaluations, promotions, and compensation cycles.
  • Build and maintain highly effective and collaborative partnerships with cross-functional teams, both locally and globally, such as HR Operations, Performance & Growth, Employment Counsel, Payroll, People Analytics, Office Experience, Compensation, Benefits, Talent, IT, and Security.
  • Review HR processes and suggest changes to improve efficiency, scalability, and employee experience.
  • Complete regular audits and other necessary administrative responsibilities as needed.
You Have
  • 2-4 years of experience in HR, operational, project management, and/or program management.
  • Experience working independently in a distributed setting to manage multiple ongoing projects and programs, paying acute attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal), with the ability to build partnerships and establish rapport and credibility at all levels.
  • The ability to build strong relationships and to productively challenge and influence other individuals and teams.
  • Demonstrated the ability to prioritize and adapt in a fast-paced environment with changing demands.
  • A baseline knowledge of US employment practices and labor law.
  • A solution-focused approach to problem-solving, with the ability to find pragmatic outcomes while ensuring smooth operations by maintaining organization and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional ethics around confidentiality and highly sensitive information.
