Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Allens Full time
Overview

Associate, Technology, Media and Telecommunications at Allens. Based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. A multidisciplinary team with exposure to significant market transactions across technology, media, industrials, healthcare, infrastructure and banking sectors.

Your role

You'll be part of our Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) team based in either our Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane office, and work with lawyers across all of our national offices. You will receive exposure to the most significant transactions in the market, and the privilege of advising clients from almost every sector, from technology, industrials and healthcare through to infrastructure, media and banking.

At Allens, you will be exposed to a number of different Partners within your practice group and a wide variety of work. We encourage our lawyers to find their niche and specialise in areas they are interested in, while building a strong foundation across their field.

As an Associate in our TMT team, you will be involved in a variety of transactional, regulatory, governance and incident management matters including:

  • Telecommunications and data centres – major commercial projects, regulatory, infrastructure development, services arrangements and major M&A transactions.
  • Data & AI – data and AI governance and regulatory advice, data commercialisation, engagement with regulators, large-scale compliance uplifts, and investments in and acquisitions of AI companies.
  • Cyber – responding to cyber incidents, engaging with law enforcement, government agencies and regulators (including on formal investigations and other regulatory enforcement action), advising on cyber regulatory requirements, facilitating and participating in cyber simulations, and assisting with other cyber preparedness activities.
  • Outsourcing – technology and business process outsourcing and vendor management.
  • Corporate – business separations and systems integrations and advising on complex corporate carve outs.
  • Digital transformation projects.
  • Startups and Innovation – tech and data advisory and transaction work for clients at all stages of their lifecycle, including work on capital raises.
  • Media – regulatory matters and broadcasting rights deals.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity. Hybrid working (60% in the office) is how we work; however, flexibility matters at Allens, so if you are seeking hybrid working or flexibility, we would be happy to discuss arrangements.

About You

You will have:

  • Experience in a TMT team within a top tier law firm, ideally with a focus on TMT work rather than intellectual property matters.
  • Experience, understanding, and interest in Australian privacy, data protection, and cyber matters and advice.
  • Australia or other common law jurisdiction experience, ideally with direct involvement in the drafting and negotiation of a broad range of IT/telecommunications contracts.
  • An ability to effectively contribute to smaller matters and elements of larger matters.
  • A desire to learn, grow, network and mentor others.
Your development

Allens offers unparalleled learning and development opportunities. You will be challenged, supported and guided as you learn and develop, and will be encouraged to grow. We foster greatness and coach you to meet your goals and aspirations. Our Career Deal provides a transparent approach to career development, and our international alliance with Linklaters enables secondments worldwide.

Our perks

Our benefits include:

  • Financial: market-competitive remuneration, incentive plan, salary continuance insurance, recruitment referrals, discounts to suppliers, health and travel insurance, charity matched funding.
  • Health and wellbeing: subsidised gym memberships, vaccinations, wellbeing programs, EAP with counselling, wellbeing coaching, and access to an in-house psychologist.
  • Flexibility: hybrid and flexible working arrangements and equipment for remote work.
  • Leave: ability to purchase additional annual leave and enhanced parental leave policy (26 weeks paid leave for permanent employees).
  • International opportunities: possible secondments to overseas offices.
  • Recognition: team-based recognition and annual Allens Values Awards.

Allens is committed to community impact, including reconciliation, environmental initiatives and social justice programs, plus workplace giving and volunteering.
