The Role

As part of the ABC's South West team, you'll be working and living in one of West Australia's most beautiful regions, famed for breathtaking coastlines, native forests and vibrant towns and cities.

You're a passionate storyteller that loves working in regional communities and finding original stories that engage both local and national audiences.

The ABC's South West bureau is in the state's biggest regional city, Bunbury, which is conveniently located between Perth and Margaret River and surrounded by natural beauty.

From Bunbury, you will be creating news content for multiple platforms and building strong local contacts and knowledge around the region.

You'll produce and present radio news bulletins, digital articles, TV news bulletins, audio-on-demand content, and vertical videos for social media. You will also have the ability to cover breaking news across all platforms, including live coverage. In addition you will;
  • Generate original story ideas that can be delivered for all platforms and shared with other content teams across the ABC.
  • Contribute to the development of new content ideas to engage our audience.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the Local Emergency Coverage plan and communicate with relevant stakeholders as required.
Position Description:

About You

You're an experienced journalist with a strong focus on digital and multi-platform storytelling and in particular the issues that affect the interest of the diverse local audience. You will have initiative, drive, and be a strong team player.

This is a great opportunity to utilise your skills, knowledge and experience in journalism, to deliver high quality content.

You will have a creative approach to content construction and delivery with experience in live presentation and broadcast. You will also have:
  • Editorial skills including the ability to source and analyse information and exercise sound judgement.
  • Strong understanding of the issues that affect and interest the local audience.
  • Understanding and passion to source and create authentic content which represents the broad diversity of the Australian community.
  • Strong photography and videography skills will be favourably regarded.
