Overview

Health & Safety Advisor role at Downer (Confluence Water, a Downer, Ventia and Jacobs Joint Venture) is a permanent, full-time position serving the Sydney region. The role reports to the Health & Safety Business Partner and includes site-based field work. The objective is for operations to own safety and for the Health & Safety cohort to act as subject matter experts and mentors to facilitate health and safety success, embedding knowledge and the operational application of The Downer Standard. The role requires coaching and influencing operational staff at all levels and the ability to work autonomously when needed.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, passionate about safety, and constructive when engaging teams to discuss and promote opportunities for improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with the business as a subject matter expert to support the success of the operational contract.
  • Provide site-based field work and coaching to operational staff to embed health and safety practices.
  • Facilitate the implementation and application of The Downer Standard across operations.
  • Coach and influence staff at all levels to promote opportunities for safety improvement and risk mitigation.
  • Support incident investigation and learning to drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a Health, Safety, Environment practitioner.
  • Exposure to high-risk industries, preferably construction or infrastructure; experience in operational roles is highly regarded.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (Diploma of Work Health Safety; Lead Auditor/Internal Auditor desirable).
  • Experience in incident investigation and reporting (ICAM highly desired).
  • High level of problem solving with the ability to navigate complex issues professionally.
  • Ability to positively influence change and communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of the Critical Risk framework.
  • Experience in Injury Management and Workers Compensation (desirable).
  • Current and valid Driver's Licence required.
