Overview

Travelling Utility Service Technician - Chinchilla/Western Downs. Based in Toowoomba with a 9-day fortnight and regular travel to Chinchilla and the Western Downs region. The role focuses on maintaining and servicing utility-scale battery storage sites, primarily the Tesla Megapack, across the Chinchilla/Western Downs region. This is a field-based role with a strong presence in Chinchilla and surrounding areas. The position is primarily based in the Chinchilla/Western Downs region, with occasional travel to support other regional sites as required.

This role is ideal for Toowoomba-based electricians who are open to regular travel. Technicians will typically spend 4 nights per week onsite in Chinchilla, supporting Tesla's utility-scale battery storage sites. You will join a high-performing and close-knit on-site team and have the opportunity to build a career with Tesla in the renewable energy infrastructure sector.

What You'll Do

As an Electrical Technician, you will troubleshoot and repair equipment as defined by the service engineering team. You will perform complex electro-mechanical debugging, rework, and repairs requiring a high level of skill. Your role will involve working across Powerpack and Megapack Utility sites to ensure operations and maintenance requirements are met and that the fleet performs optimally. You should be comfortable and competent working in Medium and High Voltage environments with a strong focus on safety.

You will operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and LV/MV/HV testing equipment for diagnosis and troubleshooting. You will develop and follow best practices and procedures for maintenance activities related to Tesla Energy equipment. Clear communication is essential, including daily updates on work completed, problems identified, and timelines. Flexibility is required, as you may provide support outside your region or internationally, and you may perform other related duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring
  • Certified Electrician (Cert III or higher) in Electrical/Electro Technology
  • Minimum 5 years' experience, with at least 3 years' electrical maintenance experience, ideally within the Utility sector (Solar/Wind/Transmission experience preferred)
  • Up-to-date Electrical Registration/License
  • HV switching experience
  • SCADA operating experience is a plus
  • Ability to work from complex and detailed documentation and/or verbal and written instructions
  • Strong computer skills, ability to utilise proprietary and 3rd party OEM software
  • Ability to read and understand manufacturing instructions, electrical diagrams, and mechanical drawings
  • Willingness to work outdoors, occasionally on the road at unusual hours
  • Valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of a wide variety of hand and power tools, shop tools, and test equipment
