(HEO8) $114,151 - $128,065 per annum plus an employer contribution 17% superannuation.

0.9FTE (33.08 hours per week) part time, fixed term role, available until February 2027.

Are you a registered Psychologist or Social Worker who has a passion for supporting students in an education environment? We have an exclusive Student Counsellor role which has become available, so we want to hear from you.

Working under broad direction and exercising autonomy, the Student Counsellor is a member of a large team who work in collaboration to provide a responsive and effective service to enrolled students studying at The University, including assessment, brief intervention and professional counselling.

The Counsellor would be expected to thoroughly assess need and to be able to work with the diverse student client group using a variety of therapeutic models with a focus on short term interventions. The Student Counsellor also supports academic and professional staff to create a University environment that promotes student wellbeing.

The Division of Academic and Student Engagement (DASE) partners with students, staff and the broader community to deliver an outstanding student experience. At the heart of the student experience are transformational opportunities in learning and teaching.

The Student Experience branch is responsible for providing services that deliver an excellent student experience. This includes administrative and support services to students as well as service to, and partnership with, academic staff in the development of a high-quality, engaging and relevant learning environment.

To be successful you will need:

  • Extensive experience in providing therapeutic counselling, assessment, risk assessment and crisis intervention. A good working knowledge of brief intervention strategies will be viewed favourably.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the wide range and complex needs of students within a tertiary education setting.
  • Well-developed ability to establish rapport and form a therapeutic alliance with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team and liaise, negotiate and resolve conflict in complex situations.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of professional practice expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and extensive relevant experience.
  • Eligibility to register with the Psychology Board of Australia through AHPRA, and/or the Australian Association of Social Work.

This position requires a valid Working with Children Check.
