Overview

Mechanical Technicians – Fitter or Plumber opportunity with BAE Systems Australia. Based at the Osborne Naval Shipyard in Adelaide, you will join our Capability Enhancement (DCE) program supporting the Hobart Class Destroyer Capability Enhancement, Test and Commissioning Program on a permanent full-time basis. We offer flexible work options, including hybrid arrangements and a 9-day fortnight to help you balance work and life. Reporting to the Auxiliaries or Hotel Services/HVAC Lead, you'll contribute to Installation & Set to Work (STW) activities, Testing, Commissioning & Maintenance of ships systems and equipment to ensure the continued operation of the destroyers for the Royal Australian Navy.

About The Opportunity

We have exciting opportunities for Mechanical Technicians in the specialist areas of Auxiliary/Hotel Services and HVAC on the Hobart Class Destroyer program at Osborne, Adelaide.

Responsibilities
  • Set to work, test, integrate and commission equipment and systems.
  • Develop and prepare accurate technical documentation including test procedures and reports.
  • Provide expert technical (hands-on) services to projects.
  • Contribute to planning and maintenance of schedules.
  • Assist in the design, construction, testing and acceptance of systems.
  • Perform defect analysis, resolution and prepare detailed technical reports.
  • Analyze complex technical problems to create solutions where precedent may not exist.
  • Make decisions and facilitate problem-solving with guidance from the manager, following policies and procedures.
  • Manage own time with minimal supervision, addressing competing tasks within budget and schedule.
  • Work as directed by the Test & Commissioning Technical Lead.
  • Act as the ship platform systems mechanical Subject Matter Expert (SME) during sea trials, including preparation, management and execution.
  • Plan and write risk assessments; perform tasks safely and isolate ships systems as required.
  • Attend training to upskill and progress toward Suitable Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP).
About You / Qualifications
  • Hold a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical (or higher) or Certificate III in Plumbing Operations (or higher).
  • Significant post-trade experience in a complex production or industrial environment.
  • Strong experience in equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to work under pressure and multitask in a production environment.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to interact with employees and customers at all levels.
  • Professional integrity, advanced technical knowledge, objectivity and mature judgment.
  • Desire to share good practice and technical knowledge to improve safety and practices on site.
  • Self-motivated and proactive to support autonomous work, diagnose production issues, develop solutions and drive issues to closure.
  • Possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain defence security clearance and ITAR eligibility.
